Overview

The West Jackson Fire Department partnered with our team to strengthen community trust and engagement through clearer messaging, a modern digital presence, and a communications system staff could sustain.

The challenge

WJFD needed to

  • Make key information easier to find online (especially on mobile)

  • Improve consistency across channels

  • Increase participation in programs (tours, safety education)

  • Create a repeatable content engine—not ad hoc posting

My role

Lead consultant and strategist for discovery, communications planning, website direction, implementation support and staff enablement.

What we delivered

  • Designed a communications/engagement strategy and prioritized roadmap

  • Launched a modern, streamlined website (March 2024) with a directory, contact forms, and service bookings

  • Implemented a social media scheduling tool to coordinate content across the team

  • Built a blog and email marketing program for residents to subscribe for important updates

  • Added online booking for tours and community safety programs

  • Added an online donation option

  • Created a new social media content strategy (topics, cadence, formats, and channel-specific guidance)

Impact

  • Website traffic up 49% from 2024 to 2025

  • Social engagement up 351% year-over-year after the strategy refresh

  • $1,600+ raised through the online donation option for Lena’s Grant, supporting local safety organizations

Skills demonstrated

Public-sector communications • Web content architecture • Community engagement • Messaging + content strategy • Training/enablement • Measurement and continuous improvement
